Travel expert shares 19 European cities to visit ‘before they become too popular’ | Europe

While many Brits have their favourite holiday destinations that they like to jet off to every year, some may be looking to branch out to places that are a bit more off the beaten track.

This change in holiday habits has seen some cities suddenly experience a boost in tourism, and it seems that even more could see this happen in the next few years.

With this in mind, one travel expert has shared a list of cities set to become much more popular in the next few years and advised travelling to them now in order to get ahead of their tourist boom.

Travel influencer Simon Blok, who posts on Instagram as @travelmorewithsimon, has shared 19 cities that he says “you must visit before they become too popular.”

In the caption, he added: “How many have you visited? Travelling is all about the thrill of exploring new places, meeting people, and experiencing the world from fresh perspectives.

“Make the world your playground, not your debt. A full life comes from a well-traveled heart, not a deep pocket.”

Top of Simon’s list was the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, where holidaymakers have already reported finding hotel rooms as cheap as £10, making it the perfect location for those looking for a budget holiday while still exploring somewhere new.

Next on the list were Riga in Latvia and Porto, with a number of Simon’s followers arguing that the Portuguese city is already incredibly popular. One commenter wrote: “Porto already recieves 2,5 million tourists annually that’s extremely popular.”

Another added: “I was in Porto six years ago and it was crowded then. I can just imagine what it’s like now.”

Other cities included on the list, which commenters claimed are already rather touristy, included Bologna, Gdańsk, Valletta and Madeira.

While others commenters shared their own experiences in some of these places, with one avid traveller writing: “Was in Gdansk, Plovdid and Sarajevo this year. Wounderful cities and alternatives for those who have already visited the major European capitals.”

And a second penned: “Been to Kaunas, 20 years ago and I really liked it very much. From there I travelled to Nida with the beautiful dunes and Klaipeda by the sea. Very nice country.”
